This CD represents a milestone in the life of the "Mass of Hope." The Mass was created some 25 years ago and it began as a simple folk mass for a small jazz group (no piano) and a solo singer.

Mr. Lorenzo Malfatti, the former head of the vocal department at Chatham College, encouraged me to expand the limits of the "mass". The folk mass was transformed into something more sophisticated. The piece was re-scored to include the Chatham Girls Choir and was performed several times in concert. There was an attempt made to record it. However, the effort failed and the "mass" was eventually put away.

I never lost faith in the work and I knew that it was always meant to be something more. A few years ago, I began to work on it and decided to develop it into a full-blown choral work. I scored it for S.A.T.B. and added the all-important piano/organ score to the instrumental group. I also added several new sections to the overall score. New pieces include: The Alter of God, Lord to Whom Shall I Go?, and Peace be With You.

In 1997, with the help of Dr. Brady Alred and the McFeely Rogers Foundation, we launched a project to have the work printed, rehearsed, and performed.
